They are something your low-carb friends and not low-carb friends will both love. Since the entire recipe just has six basic ingredients that can almost entirely be prepped ahead of time, this makes a great camping meal.
Ingredients for Cabbage with Sausage Foil Packs
This simple cabbage and sausage recipe calls for six basic ingredients:
- Smoked sausage
- Cabbage
- Green bell pepper
- Onion
- Old Bay Seasoning
- Butter
How to Make Cabbage with Sausage Foil Packs
This keto cabbage recipe takes about 10 minutes to prep, and then the foil packs are ready to be thrown on the grill! Here’s how they’re made:
- Heat gas or charcoal grill to medium heat, about 350 degrees F.
- Cut four sheets of heavy-duty foil. Spray with cooking spray.
- In each foil pack, place slices of cabbage, bell pepper, onion, sausage, and butter. Sprinkle with Old Bay.
- Seal the edges of each foil pack.
- Place packs on grill over medium heat. Cover grill and cook for 12 minutes, then rotate the packs and cook another 12 minutes.
- Remove packs from grill. Carefully fold back foil; stir before serving.
Can I Make the Foil Packs in the Oven?
Yes, of course! If you don’t have a grill or you don’t feel like firing it up, you can also make the keto sausage and cabbage foil packs in the oven.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Prepare the foil packs as instructed in the recipe card below.
- Place the foil packs on the center rack in the oven and bake for 24 minutes.
- Halfway through the cook time (12 minutes in), rotate packs to make sure all sausage is heated through and vegetables are crisp-tender.
- Pull packs from oven and carefully fold back foil. Stir and top with parmesan to serve.
Can I Meal Prep This Recipe?
Yes, this keto cabbage recipe works great for meal prepping because it is easily customizable, easy to portion for future meals, and easy to store and reheat. If you are cooking these ahead of time and intend to reheat at a later time, I would undercook the packs by 3-4 minutes.
Storage and Reheating
These Sausage and Cabbage Foil Packs can be stored tightly wrapped in the foil IF it is still air-tight (check for tears/rips before storing). Otherwise, place in an air-tight container and refrigerate up to 4 days.
To reheat, you can use the microwave or the oven. To microwave, empty the foil packs into a microwave-safe container, cover, and reheat in 30-second intervals until warmed throughout. To reheat in the oven, place foil packs on a cookie sheet and warm in the oven 3-5 minutes at 400 degrees F.
Tips
- Make sure to use heavy duty aluminum foil to make this recipe. You don’t want a thin foil that will tear easily.
- Likewise, make sure there are no rips in the foil before placing the foil packs on the grill. Any rips or holes will cause the Cajun sauce to leak out!
- Use any smoked sausage you’d like. Just make sure to slice it evenly.
